| Middle Peninsula Insurance and Financial Services is Major Sponsor for 2010 Men’s Charity Tennis
Middle Peninsula Insurance and Financial Services announced recently that it will be the naming sponsor for the 2010 Men’s Charity Tennis Tournament. The tournament will be held this year at Governor’s Land, with proceeds benefiting Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg.
“We are proud to support this exceptional charity tournament,” said Bill Morrison, managing partner at Middle Peninsula. “The tournament has grown significantly since it began in 1999 and the funds raised go to an essential service for our community.”
Men’s Charity Tennis started with Bob Kiley and a group of tennis-playing friends. They modeled their concept after the already well-established women’s tennis classic and approached the United Way for guidance in choosing a worthy charity in the community. Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg was chosen and has been the designated charity ever since.
The tournament has grown substantially since its beginnings. The first year it raised $4,000. In 2009, the group donated more than $60,000 and has raised $338,500 in the past 11 years.
The one-day event includes a round-robin style tournament with 48 participants, all age 50 or over. However, the majority of the funds raised come from major sponsors like Middle Peninsula and from the silent auction held all day]and the live auction held at 4 p.m., after the tournament is completed. The 2010 tournament is scheduled for Friday,October 1. Men’s Charity also benefits from a Wine Gala sponsored by Fresh Market on Jamestown Road that will be held this year on Tuesday, October 5 at 7 p.m.
Middle Peninsula supports many charities in the Williamsburg area, including the Grove Christian Outreach Center, the Olde Towne Medical Center and the Williamsburg Land Conservancy.
“We believe it is very important for us to be involved. Not only do we support local charities and organizations financially, but our employees donate their own time and energy as well. We are part of this community – we live and work here – and we believe that having a stronger community makes us all stronger,” said Morrison.

The Conservancy holds several events each year to help raise funds to continue its mission. One of those events was the Partners in Preservation Golf Tournament held this year on June 23rd. This tournament helps raise money to conserve and steward the land resources, including over 300 acres that has been placed under permanent protection by CWF. "
Although we didn't win," said Joe, "We had a wonderful time enjoying the outdoors and the other people involved. We all believe that preserving the natural and historical resources of our community not only contributes to a better way of life, but leaves a legacy to our children to enjoy and preserve. We are honored to be a part of the Conservancy."
SunTrust Men’s Charity Tennis Event

Ten years ago, a small group of Williamsburg, Virginia residents formed Men’s Charity Tennis, Inc. to host a tournament for tennis players in the Williamsburg area. Its purpose went beyond tennis, however. A primary objective was to provide financial support for Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg.
Bill Morrsion, financial advisor of Middle Peninsula Insurance and Financial Services, has been an active member of this group for 12 years and currently serves on its board of directors. He recently participated in the annual SunTrust Men’s Charity Tennis Event. This year's event raised $60,000 to benefit the Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg. |
